First off some info: this is the first novel in a new series. The story is not a cliffhanger and I was very happy and satisfied with the ending. It leaves lots of room for the rest of the series but wraps up things quite nicely for the time being.Now for my review of the story. The story begins by jumping right into the action and I was swept up right away. The pacing of the book is fantastic and there really aren't any lulls in the story. I couldn't put it down. The characters are fabulously crafted and the main characters are developed so well. Tarek is strong, gorgeous, loyal, and fiercely protective. Gabby is fiery, headstrong, brilliant, and passionate. The chemistry between them is magnetic and powerful. Having Tarek bare chested and scantily clad was definitely enough to get my pulse elevated. The romantic tension is exquisitely written and the intimate scenes are tastefully done. The action sequences are intense and the descriptions are breathtaking. I loved the detail of the dragons! I felt like I was feeling, seeing, and experiencing things right along with the characters. This book is beautifully written.
To put it plainly, I absolutely loved this book and I will be eagerly awaiting the following novels in this series.
If you are considering this book I would definitely encourage you to pick it up. It won't disappoint!

• I volunteered to read and honestly review a free version.
• When I first saw the cover of this book I was worried about how sexual it would be. I mean, come on, how many shirtless men do you see on covers of "clean" books? But after reading another review stating the same worries and that it was unnecessary, I decided to go for it. While there were some sexual scenes it wasn't too intense or uncomfortable and there is certainly sexual tension throughout it mostly doesn't distract from the story although there may be a little too much to be considered tasteful writing.
• I didn't really care for how a huge portion of the book was spent on characters being caught up by each other's sex appeal. It felt like pretty much every page had someone gawking at a bare chest or curves, or the necessary naked bodies (because obviously clothes can'tgo in and out of existence when transforming into a dragon). While most of these scenes rang true to the characters/moments and the writing is impressive enough to make it easy to read I still feel like it could do with a little less so I took away a star.
• I took another .5 star because unfortunately I wasn't able to fully connect to the characters. One of the big reasons I had issues is that we are only TOLD how much the Gabrielle and Tarek are changed by each other's presence, we don't actually get to SEE what they were like beforehand. I would have been easier to witness the character growth if we had a chapter or two in the days of the lives of each character and how they handled their daily situations before we got thrown directly into the story. Because of that all the moments that described 'how unlike their actions and words are from what they're used to' came off as disingenuous.
•While I enjoyed the imagery and premise behind this book I don't believe I will continue the series.

If you are looking for your typical dragon read, this Isn't it. I enjoyed the charters, the action, and of course the love story.
Loved it. Even though this not my normal genre that I like to read, this is a really good story. Man, now I want me a babe who can shift into a dragon.
Write on J.D.! Write on!
Dr Gabby Rojas is a no- nonsense kind of girl. She is taking care of a very battered woman in the E R. Then a gorgeous man comes in. He says the woman is his Princess, and he must take her home. Gabby won't leave her patient, so the man turns into a dragon & carries them both away to his world! Very interesting story of the dragon's world.
I was a little hesitant to read a book with a shirtless man on the cover, but I know I enjoy J.D. Monroe so I gave it a go. So pleased! J.D creates a fantastic world, engaging and engrossing from the start, but the best is the way the main character, Gabby, cuts through all the BS. Just love this character! Without her realism and strong nature, there wouldn't be the contrast with the rest of the romantic and dramatic world of dragons and things wouldn't be nearly as interesting. The ending leaves enough wonder to leave your mind pleasantly turning things around without being unsatisfying.
